Liberty values our relationships with congregations. They are a strong ally and community partner as we work together to help those in need throughout Pennsylvania. There are many congregations that support Liberty through a variety ways, including our friends at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lansdale.
The Trinity congregation opened its doors, its arms and its hearts to community service for “God’s Word. Our Hands.” The September 7 event called for Lutherans across the country to join together to serve the community and Liberty was among the organizations that Trinity turned to for volunteer opportunities. Julia Menzo, Liberty’s Volunteer Engagement Coordinator and Disaster Response Coordinator helped Trinity organize a flood bucket effort. Mark and Lynn Staples, Trinity congregation members, led a brigade of individuals creating what are known as “flood buckets” – large pails containing household cleaning items to aid victims of disaster with storm clean-up. Dozens of helping hands created some 90 flood buckets that will be distributed to those in need across the area in the event of disaster. “So many volunteers came out of the woodwork,” Staples said. “It was an amazing exercise.”
Trinity Evangelical demonstrated its partnership with Liberty again on Sunday, September 28, at a special celebration to honor first responders. Liberty’s Julia Menzo was among those recognized before 300 members of the congregation for her disaster response and preparedness efforts. Berne Heinz, a local attorney, member of the Montgomery Township fire department, and member of the Trinity congregation said, “Our area first responders are appreciated by our congregation. It was a spectacular day!”
Our connections with the Southeastern and Northeastern PA Synods of the ELCA, allow us to reach out to local congregations, such as Trinity. Such partnerships are truly invaluable. Our collaborative relationships with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA) and the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS,) have enabled us to continue to fulfill our mission in faith and with purpose as we create partners with congregations and communities throughout eastern Pennsylvania.
