The Village at Penn State Retirement Community (The Village), a recognized leader in university-based retirement communities, and Liberty Lutheran confirmed that settlement has been finalized for the purchase of The Village at Penn State by Liberty Lutheran.
According to The Village and Liberty Lutheran’s management, the community will continue its strong affiliation with Penn State University. The community’s name will remain ‘The Village at Penn State’ and residents will continue to enjoy the growth and development of intergenerational programming as well as all the amenities that Penn State offers.
“Our priority has always been to preserve the high quality of care and services our residents enjoy,” said Marianne Hogg, Executive Director of The Village. “Liberty Lutheran is a fiscally strong organization with a long-held commitment to excellence in senior care. It has distinguished itself in the Philadelphia region as an employer of choice and as a leading provider of rehabilitation, skilled nursing and personal care services. In addition, Liberty Lutheran—like The Village—has achieved the rare Five-Star Quality Rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.”
“We are delighted to welcome The Village into our family of services,” said Luanne Fisher, Ph.D., President and CEO of Liberty Lutheran. “The Village at Penn State is a natural fit with Liberty—fabulous quality, the placing of resident needs first and its leadership as a community resource—all hallmarks of LLS’s commitment to excellence. We also are also thrilled to be the only retirement community providing services under the licensed trademark of Penn State University. Our immediate plans are to enhance the marketing and sales efforts for the community and then begin the township zoning approvals for additional health-related beds and services. Additional amenity space will be evaluated after review of planning and market needs.”
Both Liberty Lutheran and The Village agree that the successful transition and facilitation of the purchase of The Village is due, in part, to the collective support of the community’s residents, staff and with the leadership of the Board. The Village not only maintained its census during the proceedings, it added to it. Management and staff—many of whom have been with the community since it opened in 2003—have remained dedicated to the community throughout the process. A celebration is planned for residents, friends, the larger State College community and Penn State University. The Village will be hosting the event on July, 11, 2012 at the community.
