Paul’s Run Retirement Community honors Philadelphia’s emergency responders with its Second Annual Police and Firefighter BBQ!
“For the past 20 years we have done something around Thanksgiving to show how appreciative we are for all that the departments do for us,” said Linda Curto, Director of Residential Services at Paul’s Run. “They deserve so much more, so we decided last year to also hold a BBQ to show our gratitude.”
After the success of last year’s BBQ, Linda said she decided to make it an annual event. “The police and fire departments go out of their way for us here at Paul’s Run and are always kind and helpful, so holding a BBQ for them is the least we can do,” she said.
Paul’s Run Continuous Care Retirement Community, a service of Liberty Lutheran, has been part of the Northeast Philadelphia community since 1981. Paul’s Run offers a broad spectrum of services from independent living and personal care to nursing and rehabilitation.
The BBQ took place Friday October 11. Despite the heavy rain, police officers and fire fighters stopped in for a delicious spread including hamburgers, hotdogs, coffee and dessert. They were also given coffee mugs as gifts to take home.
“Last year it was nice and sunny and we were able to relax outside, but this is just as nice having it inside,” said Lt. Michael Root of the Philadelphia Police Department’s Seventh District.
“We are really appreciative of Paul’s Run holding this event. It is nice when the community says ‘thank you’ and it is always a pleasure to work with the people at Paul’s Run. We will always be there for them,” Lt. Root added.
