Kathy Ciarla, RN, has joined the team at The Hearth at Drexel, Liberty Lutheran’s distinctive, luxury Assisted Living and Memory Care community, as the new Director of Nursing.

She has the perfect background for providing the kind of resident centered, compassionate care that Liberty Lutheran is known for offering. She has extensive experience in the fields of Senior Care, Personal Care, Assisted Living, and Dementia Care. Kathy has spent nearly a decade living and working in northern N.J., but she adds, “I am excited to begin this new chapter of my career at The Hearth, and I am extremely thrilled to be living back home, because my beloved grandson, Henry, my son, Matthew, and daughter, Kaitlyn, are there,” explains Kathy.

“Greatest Decision I Ever Made”

Kathy was the mother of two young children when her ex-husband suggested that she should go to Nursing School. “Going to Nursing School has turned out to be the greatest decision I ever made,” says Kathy. “I love the fact that I can make a difference in the lives of others, through my nursing skills and management background. It has allowed me to have a fulfilling and very rewarding career that I never dreamed I would have,” she adds.

When asked what attracted her to The Hearth, Kathy adds, “The resident centered approach and compassionate care offered here is what is so appealing about this environment. We strive to take each individual’s needs into consideration while providing the best quality of life, and safest, most secure environment for them to live.”

Making Life Richer for Memory Care Residents

Kathy hopes that her expertise and background as a Nursing Manager in Alzheimer’s, Dementia and Memory Care can contribute to making life at The Hearth even richer for its Memory Care residents. “One of the aspects of Memory Care that I hope we can expand is to create more activities that are in synch with patients’ familiar interests and individual backgrounds,” says Kathy.

“Ideally, we will be able to provide even more patient centered activities that incorporate each residents’ past into their daily routine to help them remember and feel more engaged in their lives. Having activities center around and focus on who residents are and what they did and enjoyed in the past, gives the team the ability to meet each resident as the individual that they are, and get to know what really makes them happy and feel fulfilled.

We want to participate in the residents’ lives, focusing on who they were, and who they are, and help them find comfort in doing things important to them. The events our residents participated in throughout their lives, their interests, and passions- that is what is important when we plan daily activities. We want to offer residents the opportunity to pursue activities with which they are most familiar from their past normal daily lives, to give them the best possible experience in the here and now.”

Welcome, Kathy, to the Liberty Lutheran family and to The Hearth at Drexel!
