September is National Disaster Preparedness Month – a time when you and your family should make a plan to stay safe and communicate during the disasters that can affect you community.

September is also the traditional time for Oktoberfest in Germticket takingany.

This Saturday, September 19, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Glenside will host their 7th annual Oktoberfest with proceeds benefiting Lutheran Disaster Response, part of the Liberty Lutheran community. The festival runs from 12pm to 6pm at 120 N. Easton Rd in Glenside.

“Oktoberfest itself is a wonderful example of how the Lutheran Community and the greater Glenside Community both build networks of relationships simply in the process of preparing for and hosting this amazing event,” said Julia Menzo, Volunteer Engagement Coordinator & Disaster Response Coordinator for Liberty Lutheran Services. “We are so grateful for all that St. Paul’s and their many volunteers do for LDR-Eastern PA each year. “

paradeCraft beers, authentic German food from Rieker’s Prime Meats, music from Happy Henrik’s Musikanten and a Homebrewfest with over 8 homebrew teams will tempt the adults. There will also be a silent auction and entertainment by Don Bitterlich on his amazing accordion.

For the kids, activities include a pony ride, face painting, giant slide and much more.

Tickets are $30 for adults and include one beverage of choice, a souvenir mug, and a platter of food. The platter is filled with your choice of Spaetzle or Dumplings, Red Cabbage or Sauerkraut, one sausage (Bier, Bavarian or Oktoberfest), Bread or Roll, Sliced Pork or Sliced Beef.

Tickets for children 4 and older are $25 and include a wristband for unlimited children’s activities and a combination ticket for food and soft drink and a souvenir mug.

accordian“Oktoberfest is important because it helps us sustain and continue to grow the LDR – Eastern PA Program,” said Julia. “This past year our focus has been on developing a disaster case management program and a Disaster Spiritual Partners program, both designed to help the most vulnerable individuals and communities weather storms of any kind that come our way. One of the best ways for communities and individuals to face disasters is to have strong networks of relationships.”
